NULITES
As an enhancement to the Satellite Tutorial Program,
the Urban League implemented a new component called NULITES
(a National Urban League Incentive To Exceed Success). This
newly developed service focuses on seven principles:
- STRIVE for excellence at home, school and in my community.
- WORK within my neighborhood to further its development.
- RESPECT my mind and body as well as the mind and bodies of others.
- CELEBRATE my heritage and culture as well as those of others.
- CREATE a better future for my family, other people and myself.
- CARE for the world’s people and environment.
- PROMOTE a universal spirit of cooperation and peace.
The NULITES service will focus on promoting and maintaining high standards
of well being, the educational charter, and leadership qualities.
This service targets the same age group as the Satellite Tutorial Program.
The Urban League has implemented the NULITES service at three different sites:
- The Satellite Tutorial Program is the Junior NULITES Chapter,
- The BPC Chapter at Beautiful Plains Baptist Church, and
- Binghamton High School Chapter
The service structure consists of students being exposed to various
career opportunities, networking with local companies; for example
Lockheed Martin, educational awareness via seminars, fieldtrips,
and guest speakers and performing community service projects.
